Coronation Weekend in Salisbury

This weekend our new King is being crowned, and Salisbury is full to the brim with royal celebrations to mark the event of a lifetime! 

 

Friday 5th May…

Fancy seeing your artwork displayed around the Cloisters at Salisbury Cathedral? Decorate some magnificently royal bunting and make your mark on the biggest weekend of 2023!

Those of you with tiny people, why not let them decorate their own crowns, and then snap a superior selfie on a mini throne in the Cathedral grounds.

Whilst you’re there, why not pay a quick visit to the ‘Coronation Robe’ on display inside the St Lawrence Chapel or wander around the ‘Encounters with Kings’ exhibition inside the Library of Salisbury Cathedral – a chance to discover some truly historic treasures.

Salisbury Market Square will be abuzz with music from Jack Card, Somehow I’m Home and King Louie thanks to the teams at the Ox Row Inn and Market Inn. There will also be a Jerk BBQ and the Kraken Bar serving refreshments from 6pm just outside of The Ox Row Inn.

 

Saturday 6th May…

Watch the acession on the big screen inside our beautiful Salisbury Cathedral – there’s no better place to witness history being made! Continue the celebrations outside with a special BBQ and live music from Swing Unlimited Big Band on the West Lawn from 1pm. The Cathedral also continues its craftiness with Crown Making & Selfie Throne for everyone!

You can also catch the live screening of the ceremony at Bemerton Heath Harlequins Social Club. The bar will be open from 10am as they celebrate the Coronation with a bouncy castle, homemade crowns, cream teas, raffle, and evening entertainment from Eddie George!

Harnham Community & Social Club will be hosting The Deloreons at their Coronation Live music Celebration from 6pm – tickets are limited, so be sure to get yours ahead of time!

Unleash your inner king or queen and head over to The Avon Brewery from 8pm for a Fancy Dress Disco – there’s even a prize for the best dressed!

The Old George Mall are transforming their courtyard into a street party fit for a king! From 11am-4pm the space will be full of music, entertainment, kids activities, dancing and even a very special X FACTOR guest! Come down one and all and get to know your fellow Salisbury community and help our city celebrate in style!

 

Sunday 7th May…

Queen Elizabeth Gardens is the place to be for ‘The Big Lunch!’ Grab a picnic and head over there from 11am as the picturesque park is transformed into a fete-in-the-gardens theme. With lots of fun family activities, live music and food stalls, a Sunday afternoon by the river sounds perfect.

From 3pm, you can take a short walk over to Salisbury Market Square for ‘The Big Gig’ where live music from local bands, including The Deloreons, will have you dancing the night away!

Salisbury Racecourse is hosting a Family Race Day to mark the occasion and Disco Dion will be there with his royal disco too! Kids go free, so why not bring a picnic along and enjoy the races with the whole family!

Lower Bemerton are celebrating with a Coronation Picnic in the park by the river. With a BBQ, bar, live music from the British Legion Band, and plenty of stalls around, the playpark is the perfect place to let the kids run off some steam while you relax and enjoy the bank holiday weekend!

Salisbury Cathedral are holding a special Service of Celebration for King Charles’ Coronation. From 3:30pm, the Cathedral is inviting people to come along and give thanks to the new King 👑

The Chapel are ending the night is style with their ‘Best of British’ theme, and with tickets from just £3, you’d be mad to miss this!

 

Monday 8th May…

Our new king has asked that everyone tries to give a little back this weekend as part of ‘The Big Help Out’. If you have any spare food items, bring them down to the Market Square on 8th May between 12 noon – 4pm and make your donation to the Salisbury Foodie Network and help someone less fortunate.

The Wood Bar at Parkwood are hosting a Street Party Celebration from 10am with a BBQ, classic British desserts, fantastic coffee and great British music!

The ‘Big Coronation Cream Tea Party & Fete’ will be a truly British way to celebrate the new king, head over to Milford House Care Home and help them raise money for Riverbourne Community Farm!

Harnham Parish Hall are keeping the picnics going over at their ‘Big Coronation Picnic’ from 12:30pm, and there’s also a Community Gardening Event with games and refreshments at Essex Square in Harnham at 2pm.

Get quizzical with the Ox Row Inn as they host the ‘Big Royal Quiz’ from 7pm. Put your knowledge to the test and you could win some awesome prizes!
