Salisbury's Purple Flag status

Purple Flag is a ‘gold standard’ given to a place to signify it is a safe and vibrant night out, with accreditation seeking to raise the standard and appeal of town and city centres between the hours of 5pm and 5am.

Salisbury’s evening and night-time economy has continuously held the prestigious status since 2010 after being re-accredited in 2020. It is one of the longest standing locations in the country to hold the accreditation.

Purple Flag is a national programme led by the Association of Town and City Management (ATCM) which allows the public to identify towns and city centres that offer an entertaining, diverse, safe and enjoyable night out for visitors and local residents and shows Salisbury really has a lot to offer after dark.

You could see a theatre show at Salisbury Playhouse, listen to live music at Salisbury Arts Centre, try one of our many delicious restaurants or spend the night in a traditional pub or quirky bar before heading for a dance at the city’s nightclub, The Chapel.

If you want more ideas on how to spend a special night in Salisbury make sure to read our After Dark blog.

Salisbury’s Purple Flag application is funded by Salisbury BID and is supported by Salisbury City Council, Salisbury PubWatch, Street Pastors, Salisbury Reds, Wiltshire Council and Wiltshire Police.
