What's on in Salisbury this week

The children have finished school, Rudolph is getting ready for the big sleigh ride, and there’s a sense of magic in the air here in Salisbury. 

Christmas is just around the corner and with one week to go until the big day, there’s plenty going on to spread some festive cheer. 

Here’s what’s on this week... 

Monday 19th December  

The Snowman at Salisbury Cathedral 

Make it a Christmas to remember with a special screening of family-favourite The Snowman, accompanied by a live orchestra! 

This magical award-winning show, set within the splendour of Salisbury Cathedral, is ideal for the whole family to enjoy together - book your tickets here. 

Visit Santa at Christmas on the Square 

If you haven’t managed to book your tickets for Santa’s Grotto yet, there’s still a chance to see the big man before he returns to the North Pole for Christmas Day.

Snow has been forecast for the Guildhall square at 4pm on Monday 19th December as Salisbury BID make the dreams of a white Christmas a reality with a snow machine!  

Tuesday 20th December 

Angel Christmas Craft: family drop-in session at Salisbury Cathedral 

This festive workshop is a chance for all the family to do some Christmas crafting. Grown-ups can make cards for friends and family, while little ones can decorate their own Angel Wings to take home. 

Sessions take place in the South Transept between 10.00 and 14.00. Sessions are free, no need to book. 

The Magic of Christmas Concert at St Thomas’s Church 

Returning for its 32nd year, St John Singers' Magic of Christmas Concert is a hugely popular local event. 

Embrace the spirit of Christmas with a blend of new carols, traditional favourites and audience participation. There’ll also be an interval with wine and mince pies. Tickets are £15, music starts at 7.30pm click here for more information.

Join Salisbury BID as they make it snow in Salisbury for the last time this year at 4pm in the Old George Mall. 

Wednesday 21st December  

Carols for busy people at St Thomas’s Church 

Join this one-hour, fast-moving and joyous carol singing service at 1.10pm at St Thomas's Church, Salisbury. 

Thursday 22nd December  

Caboose Christmas Soirée 

From 22nd December, join the party at the 1920s-themed cocktail bar Caboose. 

Tickets cost £14-18 and include live piano music, a welcome mini-Christmas cocktail and a festive supper stand. Bookings on Christmas Eve will receive a special Caboose Christmas goody bag! Click here for dates and times. 

Carols by Candlelight at Salisbury Cathedral 

Join Salisbury Cathedral at 7pm for the debut of Salisbury Carol by the celebrated composer Errollyn Wallen at Carols by Candlelight. 

There will also be readings, favourite carols and beautiful choral works that recount the age-old story of the birth of Jesus. 

Friday 23rd December  

Carols by Candlelight at Salisbury Cathedral 

Join Salisbury Cathedral at 7pm for another evening of Carols by Candlelight. 

An Evening of Gospel with the Vocal Works Gospel Choir 

From 7.30pm, join the team at the newly renovated Boathouse, Salisbury, for an intimate concert from the Vocals Works Gospel Choir. Entry is free. To book your table, call 01722 656888. 

Saturday 24th December 

Christmas Eve services at Salisbury Cathedral 

For a traditional yet original Christmas, head to Salisbury Cathedral for a Christmas eve service. 

Immerse yourself in the story of Christmas at the joyously interactive Christmas Eve family services. Doors open 30 minutes before each service. Arrive early to get a seat. 

Christmas Eve services include:

08:50 Holy Communion 

13:00 Family Service  

14:30 Family Service 

17:30 Choral Evensong 

23:00 The First Eucharist of Christmas (Midnight Mass)
